ALL THIS TROUBLE JUST BECAUSE SOME DAME READ A BOOK

I don't know how I missed seeing this movie over the years, but I'm so glad I caught it the other morning on TCM.

Born Yesterday, staring Judy Holiday and William Holden, tells the story of a crook's ditsy girlfriend becoming educated. With humor, this 1950 film reminds us of the power of knowledge. And after watching it, I'm a new fan of Judy Holiday. Thank you, Turner Classics!

  2. I'm still angry about the fact that this genius comedienne died so young. I love BORN YESTERDAY. I'm in awe of Judy Holiday. My first exposure to her was in Adam's Rib. As a young girl, I was fascinated by the sexual politics between Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn and Judy Holiday added more interest to the mix. I don't care if it makes me sound old. They don't make movies like this anymore.

  3. Sarah, I didn't know anything about her before BORN YESTERDAY. I'd heard her name. After the movie, I looked her up and was sad to learn she'd died so early in her career.

I saw ADAM'S RIB years ago, but it's time to see it again. This time, I'll be watching for another reason.

In BORN YESTERDAY, I loved seeing Holiday prance over to the dictionary and look up a word.
